What types of shoes do teachers need?
When finding the best shoes for teachers, it’s as easy as A, B, C. We understand that as a teacher, your day starts long before the bell rings and finishes much later than when the children go home. So, what you need are comfortable work shoes for teachers that are durable but also look great in a professional setting.
The key thing to look out for when buying shoes for standing all day is maximum comfort. Features such as memory foam cushioning and shock absorption should be a top priority. With Sole Bliss shoes, we provide three layers of memory foam under your foot. These layers include high-quality, anti-bacterial memory foam with the base layer offering a custom-cushioning system.
The middle layer contours your foot for personalised support, while the top layer delivers unrivalled softness and cushioning for your entire foot. Ideal for long days of standing, walking, and that all-important playground duty!
As well as comfort, adequate support is crucial, especially if you want to avoid exacerbating existing foot conditions. Each of our closed-back heels features a small memory foam pillow providing superior arch support, designed to hold your feet in the correct position. This is why so many of our customers can enjoy stylish platforms, heels, and stilettos after years of believing they could no longer wear them.
In addition to unparalleled support, Sole Bliss shoes are thoughtfully designed with a wide toe box that provides plenty of space for your toes to relax, without adding bulk to the shoe’s appearance.
And when it comes to support, our shoes feature the revolutionary Bunion Bed® stretch panel, specially crafted to accommodate bunions and wide feet. Cleverly concealed within the foot lining, the Bunion Bed is completely invisible from the outside, so you can confidently wear your shoes with a sleek, stylish look and minimised bunion visibility.
Why the right shoes are important for work
As a teacher, your feet depend on you to take care of them during the long days in the classroom. Neglecting proper footwear for teachers can lead to a range of foot conditions that impact your health, comfort, and productivity. Wearing poorly fitted or tight shoes over time can result in painful or debilitating issues, including back, hip, and knee pain.
We’ve already mentioned a few of these conditions, but let’s take a look at why they shouldn’t be ignored. One common condition many teachers experience is plantar fasciitis. Prolonged standing or walking strains the plantar fascia, the ligament that supports the arch of your foot.
This is where superior arch support becomes essential. Proper arch support helps alleviate the symptoms of plantar fasciitis by distributing pressure evenly across the foot, reducing impact with each step through improved shock absorption and supporting natural foot alignment, which prevents overpronation (excessive inward rolling of the foot).
Another issue often caused by tight shoes is bunions - large, bony lumps that form at the base of the big toe. While bunions are sometimes hereditary, tight or narrow footwear can worsen the condition. They can be extremely painful, and without surgery, the best way to manage them is by choosing comfortable shoes with a wide toe box to reduce pressure and irritation. Tight shoes can also cause corns, calluses, and in some cases Morton’s Neuroma, which happens when the nerves are compressed and can create a burning sensation between your toes.
This is why we urge all teachers to prioritise their foot health by investing in supportive and well-fitted shoes for teachers. But it doesn’t just end there, there’s plenty of other ways you can maintain foot health.

How can teachers maintain foot health
So, you’ve bought your Sole Bliss shoes, but how do you ensure that you do your absolute best to keep your feet happy? Apart from wearing the correct footwear, there are plenty of other ways to take care of your feet. After all, each foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, and 19 muscles and tendons – so they deserve a little extra TLC!
Let’s start with the basics: regular stretching can help relieve nasty tension and improve flexibility. Calf stretches, toe curls, and rolling your foot over a tennis ball can alleviate any strain and improve your circulation. Afterwards, we recommend elevating your feet for 20 minutes to help reduce swelling and even out blood flow.
It’s also important to remember to practice good hygiene, and no, that doesn’t mean paying for a pedicure every week (although please feel free to treat yourself!). Wash your feet every day with warm water and mild soap to remove dirt and bacteria, make sure your feet are dried each time after washing to prevent fungal issues, keep your toenails trimmed and tidy, and change your socks at least once a day.
We also suggest buying insoles or orthotics to help alleviate symptoms of any existing foot conditions. Remember to consult your doctor or podiatrist and have your orthotics correctly fitted to ensure maximum support.
